Course Overview

Shaping Purpose is a facilitated 12-hour online course to prepare releasing CAF personnel and veterans transitioning to the civilian world, design a best-fit career path or next life chapter that aligns with their gifts, passions and values.

Shaping Purpose enables veterans to identify their gifts (skills applicable to the civilian world), passions (interests most crucial to their mental well-being) and their values (personal code of honour). A Well-Being model is also incorporated into the course. This includes the core areas of prosperity, health and happiness. This model teaches ways to evaluate financial and geographical considerations, identify career or retirement ideas, address medical and biological issues or concerns, improve psychological happiness and build social relationships. The course culminates with the creation of a Life Plan which allows veterans to identify career or retirement opportunities that are aligned with their gifts, passions and values. Veterans leave with a renewed sense of identity and look forward a life with clarity.

The impact of the course greatly reduces the burden on Case Managers, as veterans will have a clear direction and therefore transition more efficiently. This course offers a significant step towards solving stressors and problems in the military to civilian transition.

The course is 12-hours in length, facilitated online over four consecutive days of three hours each afternoon (i.e. Mon-Thurs 1-4pm AT). A course workbook is couriered directly to the door, so the veterans can feel comfortable working from home in a safe and relaxed setting.

Agenda

The course agenda is as follows:

Day 1 – An overview of the course concepts followed by completing a Lifeline.  The Lifeline consists of

Day 2 – Self-Discovery, including identification of core gifts, passions and values without the influence of the military.

Day 3 – Well-Being Model, including additional personal planning and in-depth discussion of individual needs and values, covering the topics of Prosperity – including Financial/Employment and Geographical, Health – Medical and Biological, Happiness – Psychological and Social.

Day 4 – Life Plan creation, this takes everything that has been learned during the session and helps the participant plan their way forward using SMART goals so they can keep themselves on track in the months and years to come as they move towards their ideal life.

Follow up coaching is presented two weeks post session and once again two months later to ensure the veteran is on track and knows we’re available for any questions or challenges.
